History

In late 1986, the formation of Hong Kong Pest Control Association was initiated by Mr. Paul T. Owen with the full support and whole-hearted contributions from past president Mr. Stephen Ip and Mr. Nick Harding. Good and positive responses were obtained from respective pest control companies after contact. Then, the preparation process of formation and registration was undertaken. It took almost a whole year's effort and preparation. The registration was eventually approved on 2nd July 1987.

The first Association General Meeting was held on 11th August 1987 and approved the Association's Constitution and elected the first Executive Committee. On 19th August 1987 the Executive Committee in turn elected office-bearers to oversee the Association's activities. The first elected Executive Committee members comprised: Mr. Paul T. Owen - President; Mr. Stephen Ip - Vice-President; Mr. Nick Harding - Honorary Secretary; Mr. Sheik Yagob - Honorary Treasurer; Mr. Robin Wong - Public Relations Officer.

The official inauguration was then held on 12th October 1987 officiated by our distinguished guest, Mr. H M G Forsgate, Chairman of the then Urban Council, at the Hong Kong Hilton Hotel.

The aims of the Association are to promote the interests and general welfare of the Pest Control Industry; to raise the standard of service through training and education; to represent the industry to consult with the regulatory departments on standards of practice and safety; to exchange information and views with fellow pest control associations and interested parties; to promote a broader understanding and acceptance of the Pest Control Industry as indispensable to the health, comfort, safety and convenience of the public.
